Dr. MacLachlan earned his Bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in Utah, where he studied the Chinese language. He went on to get his medical degree at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in Canada. He did his internship at the University of Utah Department of Internal Medicine, followed by a residency in neurology at the University of Utah Medical Center. Dr. MacLachlan then went on to complete a fellowship in electrophysiology at the University of Utah. A fellowship is the highest level of training possible for a doctor in any given specialty of medicine. Dr. MacLachlan is a board-certified neurologist. Before joining Black Hills Neurosurgery & Spine, formerly known as The Spine Center at Rapid City, Dr. MacLachlan served at The Hammond Clinic, a neurology clinical practice at a multi-specialty clinic in Munster, Indiana. He then joined Cottonwood Hospital and Alta View Hospitals, where he focused on neurology inpatients, outpatient and emergency room consultations. He is currently licensed in Utah, Alaska and Indiana. Away from the office, Dr. MacLachlan enjoys spending time with his wife and six children. He is also interested in paleontology, automobile mechanics and computers.
